The overall mission of the livestock development unit is guided by the agricultural policy on food security, which outlines strategies to address the food and nutritional needs of our population. In addition to employment and other benefits associated with this sub-sector, the main output is increased availability of locally produced animal protein for domestic consumption. This is of particular significance to national food safety and food security, and reduction of the national food import bill.
