National Parks

The National Park Management Unit is the largest section in the Forestry, Wildlife & Parks Division. This Section also remained responsible for maintaining National Parks, designated ecotourism sites and selected public areas. And as the largest section it involves the Botanic Gardens, the three National Parks, tourism sites and areas which are not directly linked to the National Parks Section such as waterfalls and Soufriere Sulphur Springs. The Eco-tourist Site User Fee Programme, which was established in 1997, is still in operation. Gross revenues collected by the Division from the programme for 2003 amounted to $758,069.92. Commission shared among non-Forestry & Parks ticket vendors amounted to $36,303.89, at a rate of 5% of the vendors’ individual sales. The Eco-tourism sites for which non-residents require passes to gain entry on Dominica include sites within the island’s National Parks System and other area; the list of sites approved by Government has remained unchanged since 1997. The ten sites are as follows:

  • Morne Trois Pitons National Park: (5 sites) - Emerald Pool, Boiling Lake, Freshwater Lake, Boeri Lake, and Middleham Falls
  • Cabrits National Park - (1 site)
  • Morne Diablotin National Park: (1 site) - Syndicate Nature Trail
  • Other Eco-tourism Areas: (3 sites) - Indian River, Trafalgar Falls, and Soufriere Sulphur Springs
