The Silviculture Unit is responsible for nurturing forest crops from the point of sowing the seeds to the time the trees are prepared for harvesting. The section is also responsible for undertaking reforestation, afforestation, forestry extension, agro-forestry and related research activities. Nursery operations are carried out at the Pont Casse and D'leau Gommier Forest Nurseries. These operations include (but are not limited to): irrigation of seedlings, transplanting of seedlings, stockpiling, production of seedlings, seedling collection, and wilding collection. The Unit routinely inspects and maintains forest plantations in the areas of Penrice, Tranto, Aux Delice, Sympa, Wet Area, Deux Branches and Terre Ferme.
