The Forestry and Wildlife Protection Section is responsible for enforcing several natural resources laws and regulations. The Section conducts several patrols comprising forest, national park, wildlife, river and seacoast patrols. One of the important activities pertaining to law enforcement in forestry and national parks management is the maintenance of clearly defined boundaries, in an attempt at reducing encroachment in these protected areas. Another important service performed by the Forestry and Wildlife Protection Section is the issuing of licenses (e.g. timber cutting licenses, hunting and fishing licenses) and permits for the removal of forest produce, or for keeping wildlife in captivity, etc. Permits are issued for movement of produce from Forest Reserves, Unallocated Sate Lands, as well as Private Lands. The permits are issued in the out-districts in the particular Forest Range where the produce was harvested and from where it is to be transported. The section also manages the Parrot Conservation and Research Center. The Center houses a collection of native parrots for research and exhibition purposes e.g Red Neck and Sisserou Parrots. The Protection section also implements a program for monitoring of turtle nesting activities and protection of nesting sea turtles on the island.
